Hebrews 11:2 says, "For by it the elders obtained a good report." This means the faith of those who came before us—the elders—earned them commendation and respect from God. Their lives were marked by their unwavering trust and obedience to God's promises, which set a strong example.

For believers today, faith builds a good report by guiding us to live in alignment with God's will, leading to acts of righteousness, courage, and integrity.

THE ASSIGNMENT OF FAITH BUILDS A GOOD REPORT

Commendation by God: The “good report” or commendation refers to the approval and recognition from God. The ancients, such as Abel, Enoch, and Abraham, were commended for their faith. Their lives serve as examples of how faith pleases God and leads to His approval. Hebrews 11:4 mentions Abel’s offering being accepted by God because of his faith.

Testimony of Faith: The lives of the faithful serve as a testimony to others. Their stories, recorded in Scripture, inspire and encourage believers to live by faith. Hebrews 11:39 states that these individuals were all commended for their faith, even though they did not receive the full promise in their lifetime.

FAITH BEYOND POSSESSING THINGS:

While faith does involve trusting God for His promises, it is not limited to obtaining material or temporal things.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Holistic Faith: We should cultivate a faith that goes beyond seeking material blessings, focusing on spiritual growth, obedience, and a deeper relationship with God.

Learning from Examples: Studying the lives of the faithful in Hebrews 11 can inspire us to live out our faith in various aspects of life.

By understanding faith in its full biblical context, we can appreciate its role in both obtaining God’s promises and building a commendable life before Him.

Spiritual Growth: Faith is essential for spiritual growth and maturity. James 1:2-4 teaches that the testing of faith produces perseverance, leading to spiritual maturity.

Obedience to God: Faith leads to obedience, as seen in the lives of biblical figures like Abraham and Moses. Hebrews 11:8 highlights Abraham’s obedience to God’s call to leave his homeland.rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

faith helps you to endure trials and hardships, trusting that god is working all things together for your good.

THE ASSIGNMENT OF FAITH

Remember , faith has two assignments:

  1. Faith helps us to obtain things—possessions, clothes, houses, cars, etc … Faith provides assurance and Confidence in Hope in the promises of God, even when they are not yet visible.

  2. Faith Builds a Good Report. Faith is beyond possessing things. It builds character, integrity, and aligns our will with God’s blueprint for our life.
